A Word from Nick / Macauley

THE RESULT – Bathurst 1000 / 161 Laps
Finished: DNF
Winner: David Reynolds / Luke Youlden
2nd : Scott Pye / Warren Luff
3rd : Fabian Coulthard / Tony D’Alberto

It was a testing day for all at Mount Panorama today. The rain began at the start of the race, and only eased for the final 30 laps. This is where the day got really interesting. The team made the call to pit Nick and they were the first to go onto slicks. It was a huge risk considering the rain clouds were still looming, but one by one, all the other cars pitted for slicks and the race was on. The Boost Commodore was fixing for a podium position, but after a lockup going into the chase one of the tyres was badly flatspotted, making the car difficult to drive. Nick was in 11th on the final lap when the steering went heavy and he found himself in the wall. It was a heartbreak considering 997 of the 1000 kilometres had been completed. The team had done an outstanding job all weekend, but Bathurst as it so brutally can, crushed the winning dream today.

Macauley “As Bathurst always does, it had some ups and downs from today. We had really good car speed in the tricky conditions, especially with the amount of time we spent racing in the rain.”
“I felt really good in the car in the first couple of stints and was slowly tuning it as we went along. I then handed it back to Nick for a huge stint and he did such a good job and really worked his way through the field.”
“The car was fast, had great potential, and it was definitely a case of what could have been today, as it always is with Bathurst. I enjoyed the high of winning the 250km Super2 race yesterday, and the low of being oh so close to finishing today. The mountain always provides a challenge, and we’ll continue to come back for more.”
