Darwin turned on the heat again for our final race day here at Hidden Valley.
Nick qualified in 5th, making it into the fan favorite shootout. With the UV levels at their highest the Shootout shook up the order again, with Nick being one of few cars to maintain or better their position, retaining his starting position of 5th. Whilst Macauley qualified in 25th position, keep in mind, this time is only 0.8 of a second off provisional pole sitter Scott McLaughlin.
The race saw the first and only safety car of the weekend, which mixed lapped traffic with the leaders on the restart. Macauley was one of these cars and he did a great job to give the leading group the room to move forward, all at the cost of driving a lap in the marbles and burning up tyres. Macauley was one of a group of lapped cars at the finish, finishing 24th.
Nick scored the fastest lap of the race, breaking the race lap record while he was at it, setting a new benchmark of 1:06.5590s. The Brad Jones Racing team sit 5th in the teams championship, with Nick just on the edge of the top ten of the drivers standings. We now have another short break before going north again… Next stop, Townsville!
“The Freightliner / Alliance Truck Parts Commodore continued to improve all weekend thanks to the efforts from the team, and we ticked a few boxes today with qualifying and making it into the shootout. The car balance was really good; it looked after its tyres really well and gave me what I needed today. It was a great car to drive. I didn’t realise until after the race I’d broken a new race lap record!”
