THE WORD FROM NICK / MACAULEY

For the Mongrel Boots Racing duo of Nick Percat and Macauley Jones, their Pirtek Endurance Cup did not get off to the start they were hoping for. They lined up on the starting grid in a promising position of 10th, and were keen to move their way forward to the top 5. After a big accident on lap one saw Taz Douglas hit the tyre barrier hard at turn 6, the race was red flagged for over half an hour until the tyre barrier was fixed, then racing resumed. With the race being declared time certain, teams hustled to look at new strategies.

Macauley stayed in for 56 of the 127 laps, and then handed over to Nick for the final stint. About 10 laps into his stint Nick was reporting bad vibrations in the front left of the Mongrel Boots Commodore. With safety being a priority, the team pitted Nick twice to check for any potential issues. They had him in the garage for quite some time, and whilst they had completed 75% of the race distance, they sent Nick back out so he could claim any points on offer. He re-joined a number laps down and finished in 23rd position. They are keen to put the weekend behind them and turn their focus towards the biggest race of the year – the Bathurst 1000.
